Waterwitch wins inaugural
Stamford Double Handed Regatta

Waterwitch, crewed by Waterwitch Yachts partner Jay Cross and helmed by former Australian Olympic sailor Jamie Wilmot ran away from a fleet of 17 boats over a two day regatta in early June 2007.

Each day featured a 20 mile course in Long Island Sound sailed in light 6 - 10 knot conditions and flat water. Sailing in the grand prix IRC Spinnaker class, Waterwitch consistently powered away from the fleet going higher and faster upwind (no doubt helped by the America's Cup style trim tab) and sometimes hitting 8.5 knots on the downwind legs despite the light conditions. Waterwitch won both races with elapsed margins of 15 - 18 minutes over J35's, J109's, J92's, X-37's and Benneteau 36's and later corrected out to an overall win.

The regatta was a great test of the boat's systems with no problems for the double hands to launch and retrieve the spinnakers multiple times per race and even effect a spinnaker change to the low hoist "flatty". All in all a great weekend for a great boat.
